Located just over the Yorkshire border in Lancashire, surrounded by rugged moorland with breathtaking views, Thursden Brook Shepherd's Hut is the perfect place for a special escape. Ideal for both long and short breaks in the countryside, our luxurious accommodation sleeps 2 adults, with its own kitchen, living space and shower room, kept toasty-warm all year round with underfloor heating. With its own eco-friendly wood-fired hot tub, an evening of star gazing is an experience not to be missed. 

Our family has been farming here for almost 100 years, and you will see our hardy flock of sheep grazing the moors and fields surrounding the Shepherd's Hut. There are endless options for walking and biking right from the doorstep and if you want to get involved with the farm animals, we offer seasonal experiences to our guests.

Farm Tour

Join us in the pick-up for a tour of our farm, checking over the flock, feeding the tups and taking in the scenery.

Sheep Dogs

Our sheep dogs are essential to our moorland farm and the way our dogs gather the flock from the hilltops has not changed since Grandpa's time. Have a go at working the dogs to round up the sheep.

Lambing

Our lambing season is April to June each year. Join us for a 'lambing live' experience, or get hands on with feeding time for the pet lambs.

Shearing

We shear or 'clip' our entire flock every year on fine days during June and July. Get involved with clipping time to see where your woolly jumper starts out.

Out and About

If you're planning on exploring further afield, there are lots of options. Take a trip to Hebden Bridge to enjoy the cafés, bars and boutique shops, or for the serious shopper, Boundary Outlet at Colne is not to be missed. Here are just a few ideas for things to do in our area:

If you need some retail therapy, Boundary Outlet is a shoppers' paradise, with hundreds of brands under one roof. There's something for everyone, with discounted designer brands alongside high street buys, not to mention plenty of lunch options to keep you well fuelled. Enjoy.

A walk to Top Withens

2 hour walk

Top Withens is a ruined farmhouse near Haworth, West Yorkshire which is said to have been the inspiration for Wuthering Heights, the novel by Emily Brontë. The ruin lies on the Pennine Way which you can join not far from our Shepherd's Hut. At Approxmately 7 miles to get there -  a 14 mile round trip - it's one for the experienced walker.

Towneley Hall, Burnley

The family home of the Towneleys for nearly five centuries, the hall is full of period rooms covering several centuries of life there. See the cat fast asleep by the range in the Victorian kitchen and stroll along the long gallery past bedrooms dating back to the 16th century. The park surrounding the hall is perfect for a short walk.

Haworth

Home of the famous Brontë sisters, Haworth is an undisputed literary mecca, attracting visitors from all around the world. Step back in time with a visit to its historic cobbled main street, iconic parsonage and rolling moors. A trip on the Worth Valley Railway, stopping off at its historic stations for refreshments is an unmissable treat.

This iconic West Yorkshire town is not to be missed. With its famous stacked houses, mill chimneys and waterways there are photo opportunities in abundance. Explore the shops, cafés and bars or plan a walk up the cobbled Buttress to the tea room in Heptonstall - the ancient village perched on the top of the hill.

Hardcastle Crags

Hardcastle Crags is a spectacular wooded valley with 19th-century Gibson Mill at its heart. The National Trust owned mill by the river with stepping stones is a lovely spot for a picnic, or test the amazing cakes at the café. It's a downhill walk from the car park at Clough Hole, which is only a short drive from our Shepherd's Hut.

The Piece Hall, Halifax

The Grade I listed Piece Hall in Halifax is the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world, where weavers from the cottage industries of the hills surrounding our Shepherd's Hut would sell their 'pieces' of hand woven wool. Today, it's transformation into a site of culture and entertainment makes it well worth a visit.
